American University of the Caribbean (AUC)’s long-standing Community Action Day is a celebration of service, learning, and community collaboration.
At age 17, Farshad Ghasemi emigrated from Iran to Toronto, ON. Until his family joined him two years later, he navigated life in a new country on his own, attending York University for undergrad and working towards his childhood dream of becoming a physician.

Elliott Chen, MD '19 graduated from AUC with not only his top choice residency placement, but also a heightened sense of empathy and an expanded worldview.
The Class of 2019 graduate was one of the founding members of the Family Medicine Interest Group at AUC and looks forward to starting her career as a family physician.
In 2018, 37,103 medical school seniors and graduates entered the U.S. National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) to compete for a post-graduate residency position.
Many physicians dream of coming home after medical school to serve the communities where they grew up. These are just a few AUC grads who are putting that dream into practice.
