Community Action Day: Deepening Community Bonds and Fostering Future Health Care Leaders
American University of the Caribbean (AUC)’s long-standing Community Action Day is a celebration of service, learning, and community collaboration.
When Jawed Safi began shadowing physicians at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN, he knew he would gain valuable experience for his medical school applications. Little did he know that he would also forge a remarkable connection with AUC graduate Ravi Madasu, MD ‘99 and earn a competitive scholarship to AUC with Dr. Madasu’s recommendation.
The initiative, which connects hundreds of students, colleagues, and extended family members to volunteer opportunities throughout Sint Maarten, regularly results in more than 600 hours of community service a semester.
Their new white coats may be short but for 204 first semester students, the journey to receive them has been anything but.
