Community Action Day: Deepening Community Bonds and Fostering Future Health Care Leaders
<p>American University of the Caribbean (AUC)’s long-standing Community Action Day is so much more than just a fun event; it is a testament to our deep commitment to engaging holistically with the development of our medical students.
American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) celebrated nearly 400 graduates during its 2019 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18. The event drew more than 2,800, attendees, including graduates, friends and family, and faculty leaders from the university’s medical sciences campus in Sint Maarten.
More than one-hundred new students celebrated the official start to medical school during AUC’s White Coat Ceremony on Monday, May 6.
With our involvement in community initiatives and partnerships exponentially growing, AUC has decided to rename our Office of Service-Learning and Community Affairs, which will now be known as the Department of Community Engagement.
Eleven Sint Maarten non-profit organizations were awarded grants to support programs and initiatives that build local capacity and address pressing community needs.
Dr. Delgado will serve as AUC’s Senior Associate Dean on the Sint Maarten medical sciences campus, responsible for Sint Maarten-based faculty and serving as the senior local leader from AUC to the broader Sint Maarten community.
Recognition as a Clinical Oncologist will allow Dr. Chobanyan to clinically screen women and continue her work to increase local access to healthcare.
