According to the most recent data (2019) provided by the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), only 5.8% of active physicians identify as Hispanic which pales in comparison to the total U.S. Hispanic population.
AUC students participated in a data collection event on July 8 and 9 in collaboration with the Turning Point Foundation, a drug rehabilitation facility in Sint Maarten. The purpose of this study was to conduct a rapid appraisal of substance use on island. Outcomes will be used to provide pilot data for a larger population-based study for the future.
With a focus on preparedness and response to all-hazards events, the conference kicked off with a keynote address from Dr. Richard Carmona, the 17th surgeon general of the United States.
Staff physicians from Sint Maarten Medical Center and Louis Constant Fleming Medical Center completed a two-day Continuing Medical Education program on the use of point-of-care ultrasound to treat patients.
