Sabina_1.pngAUC's Student Judiciary Committee (SJC) honored the newest Dr. Karl Stockhausen Student of the Semester Award recipient: Sabina Goldstein.

A third semester student, Sabina is known for her caring and altruistic personality and unwavering support for her peers. According to Ahmad M. Khan, the SJC public relations chair, Sabina embodies all of the qualities that the student organization looks for in its honorees—a willingness to go above and beyond in volunteering time to both AUC and the local St. Maarten community.

As a part of her award, Sabina will receive a $5,000 grant to spend on a community initiative or organization of her choice—and her sights are set on Enabling the Future, a network of volunteers who use 3D printers to create free prosthetics arms and hands for those in need.

Sabina plans to purchase a 3D printer that will not only produce prosthetics for people in St. Maarten and neighboring Caribbean islands, but also build local interest in science, technology, and the anatomy. She also sees a significant benefit for AUC students who will be able to use the printer to design prosthetics and other medical devices, like glasses, while learning about anatomy and embryology.

And if that wasn't enough, Sabina hopes to use the printer to facilitate anti-bullying workshops at local schools. "We can teach school children that people who may appear different deserve the same respect and opportunities," she said.
