Computer Requirements

All incoming students are required to have a laptop computer. It is recommended that you have a laptop with the following specifications:

A PC with Vista Business, Ultimate or Enterprise (32 bit); or Windows 7; Core 2 Duo processor (or AMD comparable processor) 2 GHz (or higher), 2 GB RAM, 120 GB or bigger (5400 RPM minimum), DVD+-RW OR MacBook or MacBook Pro model OS X Version 10.5 (or higher), Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz (or higher), 2 GB RAM, 120 GB HD. Computers should have 10/100 Base-T Ethernet adapter. Wireless network cards should support the 802.11 a/g standard. 802.11n will also work on the campus wireless network. Recommended accessories includes a 1 GB USB Flash Drive and 160 GB back up external HD. All computers should have a Microsoft Office suite installed (PC = Microsoft Office 2007 or Office 2003 with Compatibility Pack; Mac = Microsoft Office 2008).

Additionally, a laser or inkjet printer (printing services are available on campus for a small fee per semester) and surge protector are recommended, all of which are available for purchase in St.Maarten. If you bring a printer from home you should also bring extra ink cartridges, as not all makes and models are available on the island.

Apple, Dell and HP have certified service technicians on the island. There is limited support for other makes. Bring any restore software included with your computer in case of problems. We recommend bringing an ethernet cable and wireless router.
